I love sharing the joy of sketching, observation, and creative exploration. Whether we’re capturing the details of an alpine wildflower, layering colors in watercolor, or learning digital illustration techniques, my workshops are designed to help students see and connect with the world in new ways.

I offer field sketching and nature journaling workshops, as well as college-level instruction on science communication and illustration. Each class can be customized to fit specific needs—whether you're an educator, artist, scientist, or simply curious about sketching and visual storytelling.

I also teach youth programs through Artists in Schools, other school programs and camps. Programs range from creating community murals, to nature journaling, gel printing, and collage art.

If you're interested in hosting a workshop or collaborating on a program, I'd love to hear from you! Get in touch, and let’s create something inspiring together.

Field Sketching

Sketching from life, preferably in the field when weather permits, is the heart and soul of my practice as an artist. Spending time outside with your sketchbook is a unique way to interact with the landscape and to study nature. Field sketching is also a wonderful medium for sharpening observation skills and for building a visual vocabulary.

A typical workshop covers materials and techniques for working quickly in the field as well as exercises for drawing accurately from life. Students focus on the landscape up close and far away, explore how to tell stories, and keep a journal of informative observations. There is no experience necessary to participate in a field sketching workshop and all levels are welcome.
